All home education begins with self-education — for mom. In our efforts to learn and grow as the teachers of our children one tool we can use is our own morning basket — a Mother’s Morning Basket.

In this episode, Jen Mackintosh is back on the program to tell us all about her own Mother’s Morning Basket. We discuss how she plans it, what’s inside, and the keys to making it an enjoyable practice.

Pam: This is Your Morning Basket where we help you bring truth, goodness, and beauty to your homeschool day. Well, hello there, and I just wanna welcome you to episode 127 of the Your Morning Basket podcast. I’m Pam Barnhill, your host, and I’m so happy that you are joining me here today for the final episode of this podcast season before we take just a little bit of a break for December. And speaking of December, that’s what today’s podcast episode is all about. It is about leaning into Christmas traditions and kind of doing a little bit of holiday school to make your life easier around the holidays. And so super, super excited to have my guest, Abby Stone on. Abby is from Rooted in Rest, which is a YouTube channel where she encourages homeschool moms. And it was just a fun conversation that I can’t wait to share with you. [spp-transcript]

Key Ideas about A Mother’s Morning Basket

You can’t give from an empty well. As mother’s it is important to fill the tank daily with prayer and ideas in order to be the best for our kids.

A Mother’s Morning Basket should include something for prayer and then a selection of books that you can choose from depending on your mood. When you begin, start small with a prayer book and something that delights you and build from there. You can include a wide range of books like philosophy, homemaking, recipe books, novels, and spiritual reading.

Making time for a Mother’s Morning Basket might mean waking up earlier than the kids, spreading it out throughout the day, or doing it in the evening. Part of the process might include teaching little ones the importance of your reading time. Set some cues for them to know when you are reading so that can learn that they shouldn’t interrupt.
